I tell my students that in order to master a skill one needs 10,000 hours at it. Some of my students are well on their way to accomplishing this task while others have just begun this road to Mastery. Still, I believe that they all have Mastered something they didn’t know before and the time has come to show that off to whomever wants to hear them. I have students with physical disabilities who are on their own path to Mastery. At this time I count myself amongst them and work daily to master the disabilities I have aquired in this lifetime.
Some of the students are mastering fear. Fear of performing. Fear of allowing anyone to see them exposed and vulnerable. Fear.
Many are Mastering just singing anything in Public at all. Some are Mastering their new skills or trying a new genre of music for the first time.
My Accompanist in this class is Mastering being a Musical Director for many people of different levels and styles of singing and music. He is also working on learning how to teach difficult harmonies to people of all levels.
Jay Michaels, my co-teacher and the director of this project as well as its writer is Mastering his teaching singers, his knowledge of Broadway music is expanding and his working as a writer to sew up a review/recital is being honed yet again. He is also getting to work on Mastering his patience!!
I am working on Mastering my teaching skills, my own voice in new music I have never sung in public and additionally adding my music healing and sound work as well as the other healing skills I have into my method of teaching.
We are all learning to Master something from the littlest 9 year old up to those of us that have been at this for decades.
A Master Class at the M Center is a place where we are all learning to be Masters of our desires and talents.
